Feeling Cooped Up? Consider Getting Away This Summer

2 Minute Read:

You’ve been smart and responsible all spring and the early days of summer. You avoid crowds, skip big gatherings, and work from home when possible. Your chapped hands are a testament to your dedication to hand-washing and sanitizing. And you have a collection of masks to choose from for the times you must venture out.

By now, the term restless is a vast understatement in describing your situation. Cabin fever has set in, and you desperately need a break from the confines of your home. Why not hit the road for a mobile getaway? Be it a motorcycle, RV, car, truck or SUV, a road trip is a great summer getaway choice. What’s more, with preparation and some precautionary measures, you can roam safely, minimizing potential exposure to COVID-19.

Whether you like the feel of the road and the open air on a motorcycle or prefer bringing the comforts of home in an RV, don’t forget coverage for your vehicle. Call 951-368-0700 and speak with a helpful Gallant Risk & Insurance Services, Inc., agent before you hit the road.

Is It Safe to Go on a Road Trip Right Now?

Many people are avoiding flights for the time being due to close quarters, recycled air and proximity to strangers. But traveling in your own vehicle reduces dangerous exposure. That’s likely why 67 percent of participants in a recent study said they would probably travel by car before the year is out.

Just be sure to travel with the people you’ve already been spending time with. And be aware that there are always things you can do to minimize risk while you are on the road. That’s why automobile insurance is a must, even for short jaunts.

What Precautions Should I Take While Traveling?

Pack a pandemic safety kit and keep supplies at hands’ reach. Essentials include these supplies:

  • Disposable gloves
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Disinfecting wipes
  • Masks

Use gloves at gas stations and road stops and dispose of them before you hop back in your vehicle. Use debit or credit cards at the pump to avoid exposure to unknown people—pack snacks and drinks to lessen fast food and convenience store interactions.

You should also review personal insurance plans to learn how this coverage can protect you from financial risks far from home.

Should We Stay in Hotels?

If you don’t have an RV (and aren’t planning to camp), you need a place to bunk overnight. This is where planning, research and preparation come in. Plot your route before your trip. Contact the hotels you want to stay in to confirm they’re open and ask about their sanitizing and social distancing policies. Upon arrival, wash down high-touch surface areas, like doorknobs, remotes and surfaces you’ll be using.
